- German-Speaking Accountant in Bulgaria
Your Bulgarian bookkeeping, in German
ConsulTax is an accounting and tax firm in Varna. Our team speaks German, English and Bulgarian, and a large share of our clients are business owners from Germany, Austria and Switzerland who run their company in Bulgaria. We take over the Bulgarian side completely: formation, ongoing bookkeeping, payroll, VAT, annual closing and all contact with the authorities. You need neither to speak Bulgarian nor ever to set foot in the tax authority НАП or the Commercial Register yourself.
The service is not tied to Varna. Documents, sign-offs and signatures run digitally, and we look after clients in Sofia, Plovdiv, Burgas and abroad exactly as we do locally.
Who we work for
- Founders moving to Bulgaria who form an EOOD here to run their business at the Bulgarian rates.
- Existing Bulgarian companies with German-speaking owners whose current accountant speaks only Bulgarian, or who want a firm that tracks the deadlines itself.
- German and Austrian companies with a subsidiary or permanent establishment in Bulgaria that need reliable local bookkeeping and a contact for the group accounts.
- Self-employed people and freelancers resident in Bulgaria who want their income tax, social security and VAT handled correctly.
What we take over
- Company formation: advice on the legal form, all documents, bank, notary, Commercial Register and company seal. Usually an EOOD, the Bulgarian single-member limited company, with one euro of share capital.
- Ongoing bookkeeping on a monthly subscription: document capture, ledgers, VAT returns by the 14th of the following month, Intrastat and VIES filings where needed.
- Payroll: employment contracts, monthly pay slips, social security filings by the 25th of the following month, sick leave, holidays, leavers. Also the self-insurance of the managing shareholder.
- VAT: registration, voluntary or from the statutory threshold, reverse-charge checks on services from Germany, intra-community supplies, OSS.
- Annual closing and tax returns: annual financial statements, publication in the Commercial Register, the corporate tax return by 30 June, your personal income tax return by 30 April.
- Representation before the authorities: audits, information requests and queries from the tax authority НАП and the social security institute НОИ are answered by us, in your name and in Bulgarian.
- Ongoing advice: we follow changes in the law and tell you what changes for your company specifically, before the deadline runs.
How we work together
- An initial call in German, by phone or video. We establish what you plan, what already exists and what the Bulgarian side needs for it.
- A quote with a monthly fee. The price follows document volume, headcount and VAT status, not hours. You know what the bookkeeping costs before it starts.
- Onboarding. We set up the document exchange, obtain the powers of attorney for the electronic government portals and, if you are switching, take over the records from your previous accountant.
- A monthly rhythm. You deliver documents digitally, we book, file and instruct payments. You have one named contact who knows your company.
Working with your German tax adviser
We are a Bulgarian firm and advise on Bulgarian law. The German side of your move, such as ending unlimited tax liability, the exit tax or remaining German filing duties, belongs to your tax adviser in Germany, and we are not a Steuerberater within the meaning of the German Tax Advisory Act. What we do: we work with them, supply the Bulgarian figures and certificates they need, such as the certificate of tax residence from НАП, and make sure both sides tell the same story. When you become tax resident in Bulgaria is explained in The 183-Day Rule, Tax Residence and the Double Taxation Treaty.
Frequently asked questions
Do I have to come to Varna? No. Formation requires a notary appointment, which we organise with you in Varna or where you live in Bulgaria. Everything else runs digitally.
What language are the documents in? Authorities, registers and notices work in Bulgarian. You receive explanations, reports and answers from us in German or English, and we tell you what you are signing.
What does bookkeeping cost? A monthly fee, quoted after the initial call. It depends on document volume, staff and VAT status and stays constant until your business changes.
I already have a Bulgarian accountant. Can I switch? Yes, at any month end. We take over the books, registers and powers of attorney and, if needed, contact your previous accountant ourselves.
Which tax rates apply? Corporate tax 10%, personal income tax a flat 10%, dividends 5%, VAT 20%. What that means day to day is described in our guide to company formation in Bulgaria for people relocating.
