Bulgarian Tax Agency Reminds Citizens to Declare 2024 Income

The National Revenue Agency (NRA) has launched an information campaign to remind individuals to declare their 2024 income. Letters, emails, and phone calls will be sent to more than 27,000 people who may have received income during the year but failed to report it. Citizens who receive a notification must declare their income within two weeks.

Who is affected?

According to the NRA, the campaign targets individuals who earned income in 2024 from:

Fees and honoraria under civil contracts

Agricultural subsidies

Payments from courier companies for cash-on-delivery sales via the Internet

Rental income

Other taxable sources

The agency already has official data on these payments, submitted by employers, courier companies, and the State Fund “Agriculture.”

Pre-filled tax returns

All available information is already reflected in pre-filled annual tax returns. Before submission, taxpayers are expected to:

Review the pre-filled information carefully

Add or correct data if necessary

Determine whether the income is taxable or non-taxable (e.g., sales of personal belongings are exempt)

Taxable income must be declared, while non-taxable income may be reported voluntarily.

How to submit a tax return

The annual tax return under Article 50 of the Personal Income Tax Act can be submitted electronically via the NRA’s e-Portal. This requires either a Personal Identification Code (PIC) or a Qualified Electronic Signature (QES). A PIC can be obtained for free at any NRA office in just a few minutes.
